Capturing Stories Through High-Quality Photography
Collapse/Expand
The Opportunity: As the Marketing and Social Media Intern at Sport & Social Club, my task was to enhance the club's visual content strategy to increase the number of registrations. To do so, I leveraged photography skills to capture key moments that would better showcase the player experience and create FOMO (fear of missing out).
The Approach: I became a student of the game with my camera, mastering the anticipation of peak action moments like a diving catch at sunset or a volleyball spike sending sand flying. Using Adobe Lightroom, I edited with purpose, enhancing colors and contrast to turn good shots into unforgettable ones. I implemented strategic posting by scheduling highlights for Sunday evenings when players were most engaged in reliving their games.
The Results: My efforts led to a 40% increase in Instagram engagement compared to previous seasons. I captured the club's most shared image of the year and earned recognition when Fox 17 and Grand Rapids Magazine featured my work.
Key Takeaways: Through this experience, I learned that great sports photography makes viewers feel like they're part of the action. I discovered that editing should highlight what's already special rather than just fix mistakes, and that every social post should clearly answer why an athlete would want to engage with it.
